I went to a meeting today for the first time in a very very long time, they’ve never really been for me. I relapsed after almost 2 1/2 yrs clean and it’s been really hard to move past. I know this lapse doesn’t mean all my clean time goes to waste but it’s been difficult to process. I walked out of the meeting today feeling hopeful for the first time in awhile. I’m hoping if I start going to one once a week I’ll start to enjoy them… eventually I would like to find a sponsor and do my 12 steps, I have never done them before and I’ve always felt like I was missing something in my sobriety and I think the 12 steps was it.
I go five days a week it helps. I have molded it into what works for me. Good job!
I’m glad to hear you are trying meetings. For me, I was full of fear committing to being involved in AA. Full of fear doing the steps. I eventually got involved because I found a group of guys that had peace in their lives. I wanted that. I knew I had to do the steps in order to have what they have. Why be in a 12 step program and not do the steps? That always made sense to me so I did them with a sponsor. A year and a half later I actually have peace and I’m happy with myself. For me personally, it’s all about helping others now. That’s how I stay sober one day at a time. Good luck on your journey
I was always the same way, just too sure about the entire thing of AA. And then, one day I just went and since I have been weekly, several days a week. It’s definitely helped me in SO MANY ways and it’s nice to have it apart of my life. Glad you went! Keep going! I’m very early on in steps and jumping in full throttle. Take care and sending you love
Don't just go to a meeting. Jump in head first and get involved. You have nothing to lose but misery, and that will be refunded in full if you don't like AA.
It’s great to hear you have rededicated yourself back to your recovery. It’s very natural to get clean and sober, and then abandon the very things that helped us in the beginning. It happened to me too. After attending treatment and meetings for quite a good while, I slowly drifted away from a “recovery program”. I was just abstinent for many years. There’s so much we can learn from a relapse. The most important thing I learned is that the substances were just a symptom to my underlying problem. I needed to really work on me from the inside out. I found that working the 12 steps, and going to therapy are helping me to finally learn how to live “somewhat” peacefully without the need to escape
Good for you. It’s not easy walking back into the rooms, but your in the right place.
Staying sober without the steps is white knuckling it. Get a sponsor and work the steps. You’ll be grateful you did!
ODAAT
Great. Sponsor has helped me a lot:blush:
First thing first don’t drink. Go to meetings. Make sure you’re done as best you know
Wow I see the growth in you !! Great job !!!!
You know if you ever need someone to talk to I’m here

I prefer the smart recovery meetings. If you have them in your area it maybe more for you take a look.
12 steps to freedom. Saved my life then gave me a life worth living.
Awesome job
Keep on, keeping on
Can you do sobriety without meetings??? I don’t find them helpful at all yet. Some are fun, most I can barely pay attention in
Everyone is different, but I’ve been in a low mindset lately (last couple days have gotten better) and when I get like that I turn to meetings even though I’m not the biggest fan and it’s uncomfortable at times- I always feel better walking out of there than I did walking in. Have you tried online meetings? People have a lot of luck with those. But I do know plenty of people who have been sober for years and they don’t go to meetings.
Good for you! Every little thing helps, sometimes it is just a matter of finding the right meeting for you, I definitely only have a couple of them that I really thoroughly enjoy but that is all I need, I couple of really good ones each week where I can be around people like me and have that community.. you've got this! We're all here for you when you need us!
