Yeah this app and the other sober app are great and all but I wish I had someone in person to talk to about all of this. The words “I am an addict” are so scary that I can’t even say them out loud. I can’t picture my friends and families reactions. My family knows but to make it something serious and not just some high school phase still feels unnecessary. I wish this were just a phase and not something I had to carry with me the rest of my life. Idk what to do. I haven’t even gone to an NA meeting before. The fact that my therapist says it’d be a good idea makes me want to do it but I also just feel like that’s so dramatic. I should be able to get a grip of myself, by myself. Why’s this so stupid I’m so annoyed. Why am I literally gas lighting myself telling myself it’s not that big of a deal. Like it really isn’t but it is?
Can only speak from my experience, but what you’re describing are pretty normal emotions for the situation. I didn’t want to admit - at least outwardly admit - that I needed help for the longest time despite knowing deep down that I was never going to stop without it. Once I made the call to get help and face my addiction head on, it felt like the biggest weight in the world was off my shoulders.
As for people’s reactions, your true friends and family that love you will still love and support you. I’ve come to appreciate those who stuck by my side more than I ever did before.
There’s no shame in taking charge to make your life better. Attending a meeting would be a good first move, but we all have to follow our own path in recovery.
You are blessed for success!!
