if i was drinking now, life would be much more easy. id be in my room listening to music having fun thinking about what im gona eat. instead im sober think about how i can be more productive.
Hi Ruben! Are you being forced to be sober? Do you have to be sober for work or something? I’m not sure why anyone would choose to be sober unless drinking was causing them problems.
i came close to losing my job once already this past year. i lost my relationship because of it. i keep telling my mom im not gona drink and only to get drunk again. i dont think im being forced to get sober. my biggest problem with drinking is how much i drink when i drink and then i dont wana stop. i dont wana wait to get arrested again or until i have health problems or until im being forced to stop to stop drinking.
So what you’re saying is that your life isn’t so easy when you’re drinking.
it’s a little perspective. My drinking times sound fun until I remember how miserable I was the next morning trying to piece the night together and hear from people if I did something ridiculous. Sobriety is where it is at! I love being present for my life, I love remembering every second, I love all the emotions, even the hard ones, and I love being someone that others can depend on. Practicing mindfulness really helped me be in the moment (like you talked about in your post). Maybe read into mindfulness to get into the present moment.
My life if I was drinking- in my room, lying in bed, haven’t worked for a week, bout to lose my job, worried if I have enough booze, can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t remember when I had a shower…yup pretty easy. lol
What Im trying to say is some part of me feels like id be having more fun drinking but Ive realized through some bad experiences that its been causing me trouble. I hate the after effects, the regret the next day, the coming up short at work. Those are all bad things but when I get the urge to drink I feel its not so bad. I feel I can do it again. I feel Im more care-free when I drink and I want to change that and enjoy life sober.
That is very understandable, that’s part of why many of us go to meetings, even when we have several years of sobriety. Listening to other people in sobriety gets us in the mindset of learning to enjoy, and also reminds us of where we came from. Not sure if you go to meetings, but there are a variety of different programs to be involved with. Also, when I start thinking that drinking is better than being sober I reach out to other sober people, so they can set me straight.
So what you’re saying is that you wish that you could enjoy the drinking without the consequences? What a unique wish.

Sorry I’m busting your ba11s, but you are sounding crazy. Like you are setting yourself for a relapse. Your addiction is trying to talk you into something.
crazy is exactly how i feel. thats why im here. bcus im seeking help.
This is a good place to get started, but I highly suggest that you get plugged into a program, this will help facilitate tools to help deal with your drinking brain and move forward with your life without alcohol. Some good ones are: AA, The Luckiest Club, SMART Recovery, Recovery Dharma, and Celebrate Recovery. They all offer a different perspective, so I suggest doing a little research and checking out a variety of meetings.
You ever notice it's so so easy to do wrong, but a little harder to do rite?
yea abdul thats exactly how i feel. thats when i turn to drinking. to “loosen up” and “stop worrying”. i tell myself who cares if i didnt work out today, who cares if i didnt work as hard today, who cares if i didnt ride my bicycle today, who cares about whats going on in the world, next thing i know im a pint of whiskey thru and bout to finish the fifth for the second day in a row. i get that feeling of letting everythings easier to let go than holding on.
That's just the poison messing with your mind. It's really not that fun
thanks robin. i know. it just helps to talk about it because im looking for people who can relate
Been there. And I mean I get there. Just slow that crazy brain down. Roll some tapes through and get the happy thoughts about booze out. Those are lies. You’re good. Just keep repeating it. “I’m ok, I’m ok, I’m ok..” breathe it out. That’s what I do.
I can so relate to your post !!! It’s so good to wake up and not fear looking at my phone not knowing who I had text or called and much less trying up remember what I had said .
Alcohol is the problem trying it’s hardest to convince us that it’s the solution. It causes depression. It causes anxiety. And every time you take a drink it gets a little bit worse. Because the drink works a little bit less. So we drink more and more chasing that relief that drinking used to bring. It’s a downward spiral of craving followed by regret, shame, remorse, and then a brief abstinence (“I’m never drinking again god!!) and then it all starts over.
Until you replace the addiction with true recovery. Not white knuckled quitting.
Hi Ruben . Listen to music just be sober doing it we have to stay strong I love you it's going to be ok just don't drink please
As the old saying goes, "idle hands are the devil's workshop." Don't spend too much time ponder what to do next. Get someone to help you make a plan and hit the ground running. You can do this.
