If you could describe what happens to the brain when becoming addicted to. Substance, what would that be?
I’m doing a 3 minute Ted talk on why the brain gets addicted and would like to be able to quote some people who actually have experience addiction and recovery

The urge to get high overtakes all other thoughts. The need to “escape” is so great that it supersedes any and all reasons as to why I shouldn’t get high. While the rest of the population can think of the consequences and reasons why not to, my brain loses the ability to think it all the way thru. The need is so powerful, and I don’t have the sufficient power to resist. Recovery for me is admitting this, and then finding and keeping the sufficient power to “think” properly.

Focused, insanely focused. Only the focus is on feeding yourself poison, everything else is null and void. If anyone could channel the focus to use into literally anything else they would be a master of their craft. Unwavering dedication, constantly seeking and acquiring what seems impossible or out of reach for most. The ability to find or make money to supply the poison. Transformation is possible and life is better when you find your antidote. Focus on that instead.

Becoming addicted is fitting your family, your potential and your entire life into a bottle or a pipe. And watching it all burn away
