I'm an addict.. how do insurance companies and treatment centers expect me to navigate the system.. it took all I have to finally say "help"
Call the treatment center directly. They give out scholarships to some people who can't pay. Goodluck and congratulations on seeking help.
Some centers have a system in place for those with no insurance but the beds go fast. They deal with alcoholics and addicts all the time. Sometimes people's desires are like a roller coaster. One minute they want to get sober the next minute they want to go back out and tie another one on. Treatment centers understand this so sometimes they like to play the waiting game to see just how serious you are. You may have to try knocking on their door several times to convince them.
Sometimes they may not have a bed available so you may have to keep on calling them and then they may call you when you're busy getting drunk and not so anxious to stop.
They may ask you to show up at their door after midnight.
I've been there and have done that!
I've been sober a long time but I've been Right Where You Are at this moment. I'm a very happily married man who has many blessings. I promise you that if you do what is suggested your life will actually get better. But the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.
Now go do the right thing.
Better to check in somewhere now than let it almost kill you later. I wish I would have just said “uncle” years ago, before my liver stopped working and I barely made it into the ER while dying. The finances figures themselves out. Now a year later I am sober, have more money than I’ve ever had in my entire life, and in good health.
The ER cannot turn you away if you’re detoxing, by the way. It’s a matter of life an death!
