I'm just wondering, do we ever really get sober. Do we actually succeed in maybe not drinking but only to find a substitute.
What does sober look like when we bore of this. Underneath it all, is all our memories remind us for the rest of our life if not others.

Obsessive compulsive disorder. Put anything in front of us and we’ll get addicted to it.

You got that right. Trying to replace this high we felt will be difficult to match.

If you stop drinking but still run away from what may have caused the drinking, then maybe yes. I faced the underlying problems and set out to fix them and move past them. I no longer try to distract myself from them with alcohol or anything else.

Drinking for me wasn’t a high, but a numbing and avoidance of the constant low I felt.

Stop the bleeding and heal the wound, instead of taking pain killers. Switching to another pain killer doesn’t stop the bleeding or heal the wound. That’s how I looked at it.

I am truly sober.. today. There is no guarantee of the future. But I don’t want to go back to oblivion island. I like who I have found. Balance… that’s what I have found. Balance in my life. Work, family, alone time. Like a scale if you ya add too much on one side it will tip and need adjustment. I will deal with it if it happens. That is what true sobriety has done for me. I have the tools to live on life’s terms.
