I'm new to this site I'm reading alot of help I'm alone stuff.
I would like to hear how you rebuilt your social circles. I'd prefer to hear answers where rebuilt social lives were done outside of the recovery community.
Welcome
Hola
I'm an introvert...still working on it.
You should get and read the book "quiet" by Susan Cain
Check it out
I rebuilt my social circle through the fellowship of AA. You can, too.
Hit a zoom or in person meeting in your area. That simple. Rest will follow
Welcome! Keep busy!!
Let me now how that works.and how many years that takes. And no coworkers.
Being in recovery trying to rebuild a social circle outside of recovery sounds pretty difficult. Normies are complete a-holes sometimes. lol
So are drunks!! Ha

I’m a little less then three years sober. At first I distanced myself from all my non-sober friends and only associated my self with people I had met in recovery. I realized about a year after getting sober that I didn’t want to live a life “quarantined” from the rest of society. I had the problem not everyone else. I allowed a few of my lifelong friends back into my life, and I’m really glad I did. They aren’t alcoholics, fully accept my sobriety as the best and really only path for me, and have never tried to influence me to use again. I actually have to remind them that I don’t mind them drinking around me… most normal people enjoy a drink or two in social setting, and I’m fine with that. I’ve never enjoyed a drink or two in my life… I understand that we’re different in that regard, and so do they. They’ve seen me in active addiction, and by far prefer the sober me. I’ve also made some really good friends in recovery. I just don’t think it has to be mutually exclusive. I personally think the key is to surround your self only with people that prioritize your well being. I’ve met quite a few long time sober people that have less then positive intentions. Sobriety definitely does not equal saintliness…
Pretty much exactly the same. The only person who has repeatedly offered alcohol to me is my cousin and his wife wants me to talk to him about his drinking. Lol.
But they are my kind of a-holes.

Chris makes a really great point. Early on definitely just surround yourself with people in recovery. Once you have some time you can start branching out. But even with a couple of years under my belt, I do not hang around with heavy drinkers. First I can’t stand to listen to drunk people. lol I started martial arts about 9 months ago as a sober hobby and am building a circle of friends there. They are a safe group in that anyone serious about fitness and martial arts is not going to be pouring gallons of poison into themselves. Just be safe and smart about your choices in friends. Know that you have limitations and you are never as safe from your addiction as you think.
