It can be scary. It’s a very new thing and becoming sober after a time of addiction takes work. For me, it was the fear of the unknown. How would I be without a substance, how would I act, etc. try not to let it overpower you. Take it a day at a time. Shoot, even hour but hour. Just find what works for you.

Fear is normal and is addressed in the steps. Your here, so you have the willingness. Be great full for that. I would point out that the program works best for those that “want” it. Millions of people need it, but do not want it.
Go to meetings, read the Big Book, get a sponsor. Just don’t drink or use no matter what.

Thank you. Just hearing from others makes me hopeful and means a lot.

Hang in there. It gets better.

Hey Becca, it's normal to be scared, I am too, but you don't have to do this alone!

Thank you truly! I feel blessed to have stumbled across this app and wonderful sober community

You got this!!!!

You got this

You’ve got this Becca! When I started and it got hard I would remind myself - no one has ever regretted getting sober. Hang in there and reach out whenever you need an extra push

Biggest mistake people make is trying to do it alone. This app is a great tool for support but it's not enough as reflected by the countless people who continually relapse.

I know this because I too was once a chronic relapser. I now have 8-years clean.

You should go to AA or NA and be around people who have been where you are and have recovered. In discussion or speaker meetings you hear others share their experience, strength and hope.

Getting sober and staying sober in the beginning is one of the hardest challenges you will ever face. But the payoff is tremendous.

Sobriety is definitely the easier, softer way!

You got this

Admitting you need this is worth celebrating because you've gotten over a huge hurtle! Congrats!
If your looking for a safe place to meet with others who will walk this journey with you, a good resource is the Celebrate Recovery app. You can use it to find a nearby group.

I was and still am scared but have somehow managed to make it 16 days sober. I know that's because I was really ready. It sounds like you are too!
I'm happy for you that you've found the community here and I hope that you and I both can keep going. We just have to take it one day at a time and be kind to ourselves.
