Im struggling with alcohol use because of anxiety and depression

Im struggling with alcohol use because of anxiety and depression. Not sure what is tge best way to get help.

Hello there. I know that feeling all so well it's going to be ok fight keep sharing as part of your fight and pray it works

I’ve been a heavy alcoholic drinker for 20+ years! About three years ago I started my journey through every type of treatment you can try! I had a year clean but relapsed and I’m back clean and plan to stay that way! Anyway I thought I had major depression and anxiety too.. but when I got clean.. after a couple months most of my symptoms went away.. it was the alcohol that created them and the alcohol that made them worse. Yes I believe people have these issues.. but what you might find is that when you quit you will be able to manage them better.. just my 3 cents.. good luck!

I'm not a good writer bear with me here😆

Do you exercise regularly? A long walk or run or a game / tends to smooth out the moods. Drinking a lot removes the desire to do any of the above, imho. Drop one (alcohol) and OD on excessive.

Excercize

You're about alcohol making anxiety worse. Ive had it my whole life. As most everyone knows, alcohol eventually doesnt even work as a temporary release.

I Suffer from several severe mental health issues and am Unmedicated! Depression and anxiety are symptoms of mine! Substance use disorder is cause by underlying mental health issues; in other words, alcoholism and addiction are symptoms of a deeper underlying problem, usually trauma has caused it! Several people have mentioned things you can do… exercise or active hobby drastically helps; especially when exposing your depression to those activities which is the key to getting through! Prayer and meditation helps; especially focused breathing. Your time of sobriety also is important, the human mind takes up to 7 years to fully recover from the damage we’ve done to ourselves! Fellowship is also ideal especially when working with people less fortunate or are struggling. Get out of thyself by doing for someone else !!!! Godspeed my friend

Its hard to want to exercise because I have no energy. I guess it will take time. My last drink was yesterday morning. Going to take some time for my body and mind to heal.

Get to some meetings and build a support network. The first step was saying you needed help.

I definitely need help. Ive contacted someone at smart recovery. Loneliness doesnt make this any easier.

By cutting out alcohol and working the 12 steps, anxiety and depression is exponentially decreased. Get yourself to some meetings.

The book alcohol explained really does a good job of the chemical activity of alcohol on the brain and body. The dopamine cycle is a son of a gun to break, but once your brain stops the craving/reward/high/low cycle, the depression and anxiety really fall away. It takes clean time. Plain and simple, but far from easy my friend. But you can do it. I know this because I’ve done it and I was hopeless (in my own mind).

Thank you for the encouragement.

Work tonight is going to be a challenge. I can hardly catch my breath.

Day 2. Gotta start somewhere.

I struggled then I found running helps a lot!!!
