So I’m 31 and I have been sober for 8 months after not remembering any of my 20s. Iv always been very very close with my mother but she has been on my case so much lately about not going out and not doing anything but I went to Switzerland last year and I’m going to Italy alone in sept I spent the last 8 months learning Italian and now I’m pretty good at it. I’m pretty introverted to begin with but it’s so frustrating how she just can’t understand that being alone makes me happy. I don’t really care for the idea of marriage and I don’t want kids at all. It’s a weird place to be where the person iv been closest with my entire life is now someone I’m nervous to be around. The other day she asked me why I don’t drink and she said “you don’t drink cuz it’s a choice right and not because you are a recovering alcoholic or something” and it pissed me the F off she said it like that. Have you experienced strained relationships from being sober? I thought it was supposed to be the other way around

Yes, relationships change. It’s okay for them to change. I believe if you stay your course and have good intentions, the relationship with heal and grow. Rebuilding relationships is a difficult part of the process.
