In anyone's experience: would having a mutual, no strings attached FWB relationship with someone supportive of your sobriety hinder it at all? I'm feeling it's the only type of relationship I'd be capable of right now during the early stages.
I'm open to all comments/input.
Thanks in advance.
Great question Felix!
I went into dating early on in sobriety with this same mindset. Then I met someone and became a couple. Then as I grew in spiritual living I became a different person and was t a fit in this new relationship. Then I met another person, got into that relationship. Grew even more and realized I didn’t want to be in that relationship. Then I met yet another person, who fit your description, FWB, and they were in recovery as well. Then I completed my 5th step and really looked at my inventory. I saw just how selfish I was in sexual relationships. So I’ve since then decided to remove the sexual intimacy from dating and really get to know people. So I’ve been celibate since July 5th 2021. It’s not easy but I feel that my past behaviors needed an overhauling. And I’m doing just that. I’m looking for an intimate relationship that’s not six based…
Hope this sheds some light on your question. Just my experience. I have no right or wrong answers as we must work an honest program of recovery.
I feel like I could only exist in FWB relationships when I'm wasted. I have enough aquaintances, I really just want to start building true friendships. Everything seems so cheap and disposable now, I'd rather not roll like that anymore. Just my opinion.
I waited until I was a year and a half sober for any type of relationship. FWB are great but it gets convoluted and is just a distraction that takes away from working on your recovery. I’m trying to date now at 23 months sober and it’s still a rough
