In recovery for a while now….where’s the fun? Everyday and every meeting it’s just another reminder of the pain and agony I’m going through. It’s been a year and a half now
The fun is truly experiencing life with some clarity and remembering the little things that you would have missed when you weren’t sober. It sucks to have to sit in that pain but unfortunately necessary to understand where you were compared to where you are now. Good luck and take it one day at a time.
I suppose
Many of the worlds top athletes like big wave surfers Laird Hamilton and Billy Kemper stopped drinking years ago and haven’t looked back. What I got from this is that just cause I am stopping drinking doesn’t mean I’m no longer cool, or interesting or baller. Setting a goal or creating a new normal for what you want to get out of life could be helpful. I’m trying that now. Figuring out what and who I actually want in my life, rather than what has happened or is given.
I had to take a break from meetings for a while. I agree that sitting and listening to everyone talk about the pain, regret, agony… it got to be just too much. Especially because these folks have years of sobriety under them. Where is the success? Where is the joy? That’s the whole point right? To recover?! I have been thinking of maybe trying to do more outreach. Help the new comers start to navigate AA. There are a few penitentiary programs and hospital programs in my area where talking and leading meetings for people right off the street. I love my home group fam… but I can only hear their stories so many times and not want to just shake them and say “you are doing it! Have fun g0d damit”
