In sobriety, the amount emotions I feel is insane. Part of me misses the numbing out factor of it all. I feel like my character defects are always in my face - especially pride because if I’m not the best - I am the absolute worst. I need to find the gray or middle of it all. And I am struggling with that.
I totally can relate. I am my worst critic and try to avoid stinking thinking and just say hey try again tomorrow this as a feel good idea is easy putting into action sometimes well that is a different story altogether. At least for me anyway.
Yes, those raw emotions can get overwhelming. I find just letting them be works best. I’m trying not to fight them, or force them away. Instead I just watch and observe how they feel in the body. And I try not to engage with them by thinking up all sorts of stories around them. They usually fade away in due time. CBT and meditation help. But yes, sometimes it takes quite a while to sit out uncomfortable emotions. Hope you feel better soon!
Be easy on yourself. It’s a process, a journey - not a destination. I’m almost 18 months clean and I’m still embarrassingly emotional - and it’s OK, part of the healing. Emotions pass. I’ve found daily meditation to help keep me in the middle.
The key for me is to share those emotions either through journaling, a sponsor perhaps.
Oh I’m with you girl. I just posted something along the lines. Today/tonight is a hard day for me. Prayers for your strength
