I listen to sleep stories and guided sleep meditation. I’m a chronic non sleeper. After years this helps the most regularly

Yes, thanks Simon, forgot about the guided sleep meditations. When I am utterly and completely desperate, that is my last resort. They DO help, especially when my mind is reeling from one thought to the next.

Kava kava has been a life saver here. Either tea or supplement capsules.

This was my primary reason for drinking a few months ago. Just couldn't sleep without. After medical detox I've tried a great many things to sleep.
On the natural side. Melatonin you take ....don't be shy with it ...not going to overdose. There's chamomile, and valerian root...often in tea form. CBD gummies really help me personally. I have some pretty severe insomnia in my sobriety so I've had to go the prescription route. I have been prescribed Seraquel and hydroxyzine and they work like a charm. Seraquel is the primary agent and it is non habit forming and not a scheduled drug so not a narcotic, and hydroxyzine is similar to benedryl, just a later generation antihistamine that still crosses the blood-brain barrier to make you sleepy. If you need stronger meds like I do, no practitioner should hesitate to write those given your situation. Personally, Ambien and Lunesta are out there too but didn't help me much 🤷. Good luck to you.

All I know is that we didn't get this way overnight and so we don't get better overnight. Sometimes we simply have to give time, time.

I take melatonin 10 mg. Melatonin comes in 3, 5, 10 and 20mg.
Since I started taking the 20 mg I seem to sleep through the night sometimes and I've had sleeping problems my whole life drunk or sober. Having said that it's still not a perfect equation for me.

I know it's difficult but try not to stress about how many hours you have left to sleep. You'll get through the day even if you're more tired than usual. Stressing about it makes it harder for your brain to settle

In the early days I used melatonin, a cbd sleep oil and nyquil (yes all three). Once I consistently slept for a few days then I removed the nyquil. Zzzquil is an alternative to nyquil, for those who might be triggered by the liquid form.

Don't worry about diet right now but it can definitely help you sleep better to drink enough water throughout the day. It's my easiest anxiety trick!

Other than that, nothing but time my dear. Be good to your body, it's carried you through a lot.
