Insomnia

I have my diffuser with lavender running, I took melatonin .. still up. Any tips on how to get some sleep while your body is still adjusting to being clean?

I have ideas!!!

I try and get as much exercise in as possible during the day. It doesn't always work but I find it helps.

Sometimes it just takes time. I also tried a bunch of different strategies to help me fall asleep, but after years of passing out to go to sleep, there was no way for me to shut off my brain at night. Plus, the night sweats didn’t help once I did fall asleep. It took almost 2 months for my body and mind to adjust. As is often the case in recovery, it’s best to learn how to accept dnd surrender than ti fight it. Keep making good choices ODAAT

:purple_heart: that’s good they did that I don’t think they would prescribe me anything lol

I did have a long day yesterday and still no zz but maybe adding more exercise will help. In general it helps anyways lol ty

I was taking melatonin which did help. A bit more research into melatonin ruined it for me since it's produced in our pineal glands...supplements mess up our natural production to where our bodies become dependent on the synthetic...just can't win! Lol

Besides the non habit forming medications, make sure you do not sleep in at all. Don’t nap during the day. Try exercise in the am (I know it’s a struggle at the moment). If you have headphones maybe some ASMR or sleep meditation? Insomnia is horrific but don’t let it be a reason. It will get better.

Ty for telling me that. I didn’t know!

I am starring tapping & EMDR I’m sure that’s gonna help eventually. But yah I do sometimes nap so I will fight the urge. Ty for the tips! It’s appreciated.

Kava kava is priceless. Not the store bought tea bags but the powder u can get on Amazon. I have insomnia so bad I begin to hallucinate. Less than 12 hrs in a weeks time, sometimes. Kava has been pretty helpful. Alot of folks like the cbd gummies too. I can't afford them but I hear they help. Physically exhausting ones self is also helpful. For me, I can't work out past noon which physically I can't much do anyway these days (back issues) and I cannot drink coffee past 10am or I will be up till 4am. Journaling was also helpful not only to help unravel and power down my mind but also to learn what works and what does not. Keeping a sleep Journal was key.

Thank you for the tips. I will have to check out the kava kava. I did order some cbd gummies but they were expensive so I’ll have to like split them in thirds or something :joy::joy: plus I’m still waiting on them bc u know expedited shipping is like 25 bucks! Lol
I paint so that helps sometimes to just forget the fact that I’m hallucinating lol which means to me all my art are masterpieces :joy:

Lol. That is great, I am definitely no artist but I will give it a go no less! ZMA is a supplement and also helpful. Banana peel tea too, if you can stomach it, and magnesium supplements in general. Magnesium is necessary for sleep and if you are blood type B- like I am, your body naturally uses two to three times as much magnesium as most people. Therefore almost regardless of diet you could be magnesium deficient. I supplement with magnesium day and night. There is a particular type of magnesium that is better for sleep, it will say "promotes sleep" on the bottle in the vitamin aisle. This, for me is a must. If I run out, my rest is affected horribly. It has become so important for my rest that when I open the last bottle, which contains a month supply, I go and pick up two more bottles at the store the next day.

I can think of two ways which help me. One is sleepy time tea. It's herbal. Regular grocery store stuff. Also there's herbal tea for relaxing. Also regular grocery store stuff. I also write down what I fear or whom I resent. Not the fourth step version. Which helped immensely. But a I fear list. Not in huge details but like" I fear losing my place or I fear not remaining sober" as many as pop into my head. Then I ask God as I understand God, ( your prayer version*here) to please remove these fears for the night. The resentments too. Then I crumple up and throw it away. It's personal and others might not understand it.
Exercise early at least 3-4 hours b4 bedtime.
No caffeine after noon or 2. It has a half life- remains in body for hours after imbibing.
Have a close friend you can share with if your mind is racing.
I don't take melatonin it caused my brain to quickly depend on it rather than my brain's natural melatonin.
I also am not comfortable with Rx meds because I am a addict. If one's good eventually I'm taking ten..
You're new. Try chocolate too. If you drank a lot your body is used to lots of sugar. Chocolate mimics love endorphins and is relaxing...
I hope I helped. It's my personal experience. If you need to see a doctor it can help too... Good luck!
Also I play mellow calm kids movies or tv shows late at night on low volume. A fan and cold air also slow us into hibernation mode..like a sleepy bear...

Lol I appreciate it!! A lot thank you. I do actually write things down to let them go and then burn it or use Marker then run it under water and watch it dissipate. Yah I agree on the meds. I don’t think I would be tempted to abuse them. Thanks for the huge text I appreciate all the advice sincerely :relaxed:

Yoga nidra. There are a bunch on Spotify that help
