Insomnia

Update: I went and got some sleep aid from the store to see if that will help at all

I’m really having a hard time trying to fall asleep, I’ve been on sleeping meds ever since I got clean and recently ran out / stopped taking them and I also am withdrawing from Suboxone. I could use some advice on how to cope with it, and before anyone says meditation, I can’t unfortunately my adhd acts up in overdrive every time I try and if you have any tricks to help to fall asleep that would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried a guided meditation? I YouTube them. Sleep aids and withdrawal from suboxene will unfortunately do this..

This may be another obstacle in the way. Which is perfectly normal and such a part of the sober life and healing. Have you tried to change your diet? Stop consuming certain foods or not consuming caffeine. Try working hard or working out a few hours before bed. That way you are physically exhausted? I know sometimes if I don't feel I did enough my brain will tell me I don't deserve it and I could have done x y or z.

The weird thing is I’m yawning before I head to bed which is my body telling me I’m tired but when I lay down I’m up almost all night sometimes all night and then I end up sleeping all day, which is starting to become a problem at home

Have you googled side effects and symptoms of the medicine you take? Most sleeping aids become a substance that our body or brains require. I know from experience that suboxene was terrible for me to let go of and I had only taken it for a short period of time. Sometimes having the knowledge of what we might experience helps us to process it and find a way to navigate through it.

I was on it for a little over a year , I’m thinking my body was so dependent on it that it’s lost and doesn’t even know what to do now

I can agree with that. So now it's time to figure out how long it may take to feel "normal" again do you have something to look forward to. Set a goal and work through it. I recently started having nightmares and reoccurring dreams that keep me up at night, and rest is incredibly important for us to maintain and have a happy existence.

I mean my fiancé comes home this week after being gone for two months, I can look forward to that, but other than that nothing

Try CBT-I. It really helps, and it's simple. You'll have to get up at the same time every day tho -even if you haven't slept all night. The 2 biggest things are, if you can't fall asleep for 30 minutes, you get up and go to another room and read/watch t.v /do a hobby/ whatever, until you feel tired and go back to bed. Repeat if you're still not falling asleep. You should never be in your bed for anything but sleep. The 2nd thing is no sleeping in or sleeping during the day. You have to train your mind to be on a schedule. It takes a little discipline, but it really works.

Exercise is a sure fire way to get a good nights sleep. Exercise until you are tired.
Works every time.

I used to do trazadome when I first got sober. Took me awhile but now I don’t need it
