I can understand how your feeling. I'm open to chat

Well that’s a tough one. Everyone is different but I think actually feeling guilt, shame, etc. about your drinking is actually a good thing in a sense as it is acknowledging your drinking has become a problem and you are aware you have a problem. You also have to forgive yourself and not worry about the past at the moment. There’s time for that later. Live in the now and work on yourself. Alcohol is a depressant and will alleviate those feelings temporarily but when the alcohol wares off the feelings of depression and anxiety are heightened due to alcohol chemically re wiring your brain. It does this over time and it takes time to change your way of thinking. It’s all learned behavior. You’ve been drinking for years, it takes a very long time to just change that. It’s like losing a loved one. Alcohol has been your best friend for years and you will grieve bit eventually you will think of it less and less….well I got a little off track but I’ll chat with you anytime meja :call_me_hand:t3::v:t3::sunglasses:

Thank u soon much.

I've felt a lot of guilt and shame through this process. I get it.

Group therapy has been helpful for me. The meds have helped also.

I think feeling less alone in the experiences I've had was huge. When I was in rehab, I could tell others my stories, and no one looked down on me. I could see myself in their stories. You can get that same experience here, or in meetings. Sharing your stories, thoughts, and feelings with others will help you get perspective.

I'm also available to chat.

Anything negative we let go of leaves a void. A hole in our soul is what I've heard it referred too. When there's a void it needs to filled with something positive. Service work was the first for me. It got me out of myself and started the process of filling my soul with goodness and unselfishness.

What kept me drinking and the greatest risk to my sobriety is not alcohol but my thinking. Guilt and shame are familiar themes for me along with insecurity and low self-esteem.

Changing that thinking is a challenge. Some days I do well, other days not so much. For me, I have pulled together a mess of tools to try to act my way into right thinking. It includes AA, a handful of people I trust, writing, exercise, and a good amount of spirituality.

I am always happy to chat with anyone on this topic.

It’s the Disease calling you back

This!! And, make yourself remember the things you DID do right.
