Is it weird to go to AA instead of NA if you’re an addict? I feel more comfortable in AA but also paranoid like im an imposter?
Alcohol is a drug. If you’re addicted to alcohol you’re an addict, but I think it’s respectful if you go to AA to identify as an alcoholic rather than an addict. My son was an addict and he loved AA and NA not as much. He found it very rough and triggering. And the AA program grounding and helpful where we share in the meetings in a general way. I am an alcoholic and I certainly did my share of drugs in my early days. I just don’t talk about them in the meetings. I saved them more intimate stuff for private conversation, conversations, and with my sponsor . You come to AA because you are a member and you say so. Tradition three the only requirement is a desire to not drink.
Whatever keeps you from using!
We have a lot of AA/NA at our OPEN meetings, and they identify as both.
The other thing we have is DRA which is a Duo Recovery Anonymous. This group also includes mental health along with our addictions
I have seen lots of people identify as both at aa meetings.
Just be mindful there will people who will look down. Im sure they have their reasons but they exist.
Just go where you are comfortable and welcome. You can always decline to share/ speak.
There's nothing wrong with going to the meeting. I am an addict and my home group is aa.Keep coming back is what I always hear.
Why is it respectful to identify as an alcoholic if I’m not an alcoholic? I’m not arguing lol just genuinely trying to understand. It feels dishonest to call myself an alcoholic
U can go to. A range different meetings
