Is Motivation just a Myth in Recovery?

Staying motivated is crucial for recovery! We all have days of not feeling motivated. It is crucial we stay motivated on what we have set out for ourselves because even with just saying, it’s okay to skip one day, it can become a pattern and we can slip back into old habits.
I find that on days I don’t feel motivated, just getting out of bed, making a good breakfast, and getting ready for the day even if 8am not going anywhere helps me stay motivated. Having the feeling of having to do something and still being productive with my day helps me stay on top of my tasks and goals.
Staying productive and not falling behind on tasks and things you have to do is a great driver for recovery, not putting off the tasks you have set out for yourself and getting up, getting ready, and staying on top of everything is a great driver for recovery.

Quick Question! Do you believe in constant motivation, or is it okay to have 'off' days?

Is complacency the opposite of motivation? Complacency is definitely a danger to our recovery. I’m motivated to not get complacent. Some days are just blah. Some days just getting my head back to my pillow at night without picking up is a win. I do have to give myself a little grace and love sometimes. I’m careful not to let a bad moment turn into a bad day, then into a few bad days, and then into a real funk. I do this by practicing a daily program of recovery (sponsor, friends, meetings, prayer and meditation, sobriety apps, sobriety chat groups etc) that helps keep me connected and mindful of my disease. Not sure if I answered your question, but that’s my .02

It’s hard to find motivation sometimes but usually I say I have no choice but to go do this thing because I know it will make me feel better. The more I feel better the more motivated I will be.

Practicing gratitude keeps me motivated for the most part. Some days walking to and from the kitchen is almost impossible. Other days I am able to make ot to the gym, get work in, cook, clean. (Disability). Waking each day and recognizing what I am blessed with and grateful for is a sure way to guilt me toward drive if all else fails!

Finding motivation everyday can be hard, if you had to choose something to do everyday that you know would keep you motivated everyday, what would it be?

Great question,I will have to agree with brother Josh with having to practice gratitude on a daily basis (for some , as much as possible throughout the day). Though definitely keeping yourself accountable for your actions, reactions & inactions towards your sobriety is a great way I am able to motivate myself by continuing to remind myself how alcoholism is cunning, baffling, and powerful. That is one way I keep myself motivated on a daily basis.

Being able to exercise without having any side effects from drugs or alcohol.
