Is there something or someone that’s really inspired you throughout your recovery journey?
Weirdly, a comedian named Dan Soder. He had a podcast and talked about his sobriety really openly. Listening to him talk about it made me realize you can be sober and not boring.
What inspires me with my sobriety is my past because I did a lot of horrible stuff and I wasn't a good guy when using and drinking and I wanted better for myself and wanted to do better than what I was
Seeing other people ahead of me doing it and giving me the absolute best example that I could as well. It showed me I was not alone in my struggles, my thoughts and feelings. It also showed me a path forward for my own journey.
A mantra from my first sponsor, “you can’t control people, places, & things.” I think I have always been trying to control my circumstances as a means to protect myself from others. I am learning to let go of that illusion. The only one you can really change is yourself.
