Isn’t is crazy how on the surface level alcohol seems

Isn’t is crazy how on the surface level alcohol seems so fun, care free , good times, nice cute bars or restaurants. But underneath the surface it’s extremely dark and depressing.

Care free turns into worries the next day

The fun turns into not leading life with a real purpose and emptiness

Good times turn into bad times

Alchol is truly deceiving :flushed:

There’s a saying in recovery “play the tape forward”. When our sick little brains are romanticizing that drink, play the tape forward to what really happens when you have that one drink. “Think it all the way thru” is another saying. Our minds play tricks on us

I was reading a book and they said how advertising glamorizes alcohol to make it more appealing and sellable. To make it look like you are having the time of your life. I mean I guess you do see that in a lot of movies and tv shows as all. Big groups of friends hanging out and drinking and having the “best” time of there life

That’s Madison Avenue trying to get you to buy buy buy! Shoes, purses, cars, body, hair jewelry etc. Their job is to make it all look so good. It’s all a lie. The material stuff just keeps us broke. The beauty and body stuff just makes us feel inadequate. The alcohol…that my friend will completely destroy us. Be aware and take care!

Nicely said Natalie, we live in a world where alcohol is packaged to us with a red bow

Yes we feel awful waking up half sick and hungover and yet say we drink to feel better.

It feeds us the Big Lie; that this time, everything will be OK. But it never is, is it?

The best saying in AA! I use it for everything. What might seem like a good idea is actually a sheep in wolf's clothes.

Very well said.

Yep, exactly. Euphoric recall, our addicted mind only wants us to remember that first 30 minutes when it’s fun, but completely ignore the hours, days, weeks, and years of misery that follows. We have to play the tape all the way through, as they say.

Parallel to your thought: it’s funny that most movies only show the positive side of drinking/using, and not the destructive and fatal side.
