Iso fitting sponsor 🖤

ISO FITTING SPONSOR
I’ve had 2 different sponsors in the past 97 days and felt neither were fitting for myself or my recovery. Let me start by saying I’m agnostic/atheist and would prefer someone with similar views. I know it’s a long shot but I’m serious about my recovery so I figure why the fck not and reach out here as well?!
Thanks in advance y’all! :black_heart:

I’m not a newcomer, as I was first introduced to AA a zillion years ago :t_rex:. I also struggled with all of this God stuff. I know they keep saying it’s not religious, and pick your own vision of a higher power…blah blah blah. It was so frustrating. Plus, they kept harping on the fact that you have to have one to get sober. Fast forward a zillion years and I’m back in AA. I still hear the same :poop: from many people, but I have found enough support from other members, this app, and other recovery programs that help me redirect my thoughts back to MY beliefs. MY beliefs and interpretations can and do work for ME. There’s a ton of AA literature written by the man himself (Bill Wilson) that tells us that there are many different paths to spirituality. Do yourself a favor and download the app Everything AA. Scroll down to literature and pamphlets. Then go to Many Paths To Spirituality. If you like what you see, maybe you could ask a potential sponsor to read this before sponsoring you. Don’t give up. The fellowship of AA and the 12 steps can be life changing. So could other programs btw

When looking for a sponsor find someone who has what you want to have.
Sometimes someone very different from yourself can help you see things differently. You don't have to believe in God in order to find a higher power, or power greater than yourself.

I was raised very very Catholic but also very very scientific. So I've struggled with this constantly in the past. And I can honestly say the past now, because when I really thought about it and drilled down to my core beliefs ... my Higher Power is simple.... It's Knowledge and Instinct .. I say both because:

Knowledge isn't instinctive to acquire (as many I'm sure can relate) and Instinct doesn't require knowledge to possess it. So I need both to survive as a human being and even more so to survive as an alcoholic.

To me both can be tangible and intangible which is something I personally need and understand a Higher Power to be.

I think I know someone. Finding the right sponsor is probably the most important part of getting the steps to stick

Cool!! Just shoot me a message.

I feel ya, I’m in the same boat. Not into the whole god thing, never have been. That’s probably the biggest hurdle for me with AA. I still attend meetings regularly and I gravitate to people who aren’t always talking god. At some point tho I’ve gotta lock down a sponsor :joy:
