Day 66
“Pride goeth before the fall.”
Pride is the basic breeder of most human difficulties, the chief block to true progress. Pride lures us into making demands upon ourselves or upon others which cannot be met without perverting or misusing our God-given instincts. When the satisfaction of our instincts for s*x, security, and a place in society becomes the primary objective our lives, then pride steps in to justify our excesses.
Confidence is this: Wearing your
triumphs with humility, and wearing
your scars with pride. Many of us
do precisely the opposite.
There are 2 kinds of Pride:
Authentic pride arises when we feel good about ourselves, confident, and productive, related to socially desirable personality traits, such as being agreeable, conscientious, and emotionally stable.
Hubristic pride, sometimes referred to self-centered pride, is egotism and arrogance at its best, often exhibited in undesirable traits such as becoming contrary, disagreeable, aggressive, having low or brittle self-esteem—and being prone to shame.
