It’s really hard to not go back to the past when you’re too you’re sober and Fourth of July was not used to go to the bar and get plastered and now I’m just trying to live in a different way, but it’s too hard with all the distractions in this world
You got this Kurt. Take a look at the fireworks sober. It’s a game changer.
Holidays and the beginning stages of sobriety are difficult especially when you are see people buying alcohol in the stores or even being handed samples while shopping.
When I first got sober I wondered how anything especially holidays or even going to a restaurant would be enjoyable without a drink. I would be lying if I said it was easy because it isn’t but you realize after a while it is. I feel so clear minded and I feel great not waking up wondering what happened or what I did or said. You’ll be happier when you wake up sober without a hangover.
You can do it. Stay strong.
What I did and have done for fourteen years of sobriety is make sure that I go to a meeting. If I decide to go out to watch fireworks with a unsober crowd I take my own car even if my family was going. I got called a party pooper because I left early, but I remained sober. Always make sure your car is not blocked in.
You can also see if anyone in your group is doing anything and hang with them.
Or you can stay home and watch the fireworks on television.
I know that I make it sound easy which it definitely is not. But this is what I have been doing for 14 years and it has worked for me.
Yeah man, it’s hard. It’s uncomfortable. But we grow in uncomfortability. When we are uncomfortable, it’s typically the universe making us aware of a shortcoming. Good news is, it gets less uncomfortable over time.
If you’re not already, you should try AA.
Get to a meeting
It’s just another day in your life. Do what you would do any other day. Call your sponsor, go to a meeting, watch a movie or just sleep?
Do anything but dwell in the past. Save that stuff for step 4 and 5 haha! Look forward the futures bright!
