It’s so hard to get better because I keep my sources close and I know I need to cut them off. It’s hard when they are one text away and I have what I want. Many people in my family have died from OD, and I don’t want to be the same. I have been struggling off and on since I was a teen, but I’m in my 20s now and it seems to be getting worse. My life isn’t bad but I find every day tasks stressful. It seems easier to do things when I take an oxy. Nothing hurts physically or mentally. If I could get over the want it aspect of addiction I think I could shake it but that’s what is stopping me. I’m bored and stressed and that triggers me.
You are not alone when it comes to what triggers you. When I get that feeling, I had to practice recognizing what was happening and making a choice to not give in to the feeling. Reading, watching a show, walk whatever instead. The hard part was training myself to recognize the feeling and pause to make the choice.
