It’s the first drink that gets us drunk

I’ve heard this a few times in sobriety. The one I like and find to be very true is “The thought of the first drink gets me drunk.” This one rings very loud to me because I had a subconscious relapse. I had the mental obsession that someday I would use again. I would conjure up how, where, and that I knew what I did wrong last time I did the drug. I manipulated my way back into using and it all started with a single thought that then took over my mental capacity and I was off and running. Ran harder and faster then ever before!

So, I feel that the mental obsession comes first, then the drink, then the cravings for more. I found that taking certain steps has removed the mental obsession and relieved me of the cravings and has given my the spiritual experience needed to live a joyous life I could only imagine in a dream.

The first time is heard that I thought it was dumb af but after many years I came to truly understand and appreciate that sentence. Recovery is about learning how to protect ourselves from that first drink

It totally is true, I stopped back 2009 and started up in 2012 which then lead me to harder stuff! Should have never started again! :joy: well I’m grateful to be here in this journey.

I get it...I had 2006 to 2011 no booze and started again. It's been tough ever since. I almost had a year but made the dumb decision to celebrate the holiday by drinking. Dumb! Glad we are both here. This app sucks up my phone power!!!
