I've spent 11 years in prison. I just got out

I've spent 11 years in prison. I just got out for the 2nd time. This is the first time I've decided to take my recovery into my own hands. I can't do drugs. I'm the type that goes balls to the wall and ends up locked up Everytime. I want life. I want everything life has to offer .. not mask pain of the past with heroin or meth. I want to understand HOW to be sober in such a messed up world. This is my first try at recovery and need as much ADVICE as possible. So guys feel free to comment.

I can tell you my experience. So I am a straight up chronic iv fentanyl user. Most the guys in my AA sponsorship group have done alot of time in prison. This is what has worked for us. Never thought I'd be on AA as I"m an addict. Will share more tomorrow...

Hey Heather,
You can do it. But you can’t do it alone. Join a program of recovery. AA, NA, SMART, Buddhism, whatever. Surround yourself with people who used to be in active addiction, but have some clean time now.
Ask them for HELP. Fuck pride. Fuck shame. Fuck ego. Fuck the past. Focus on the moment you’re in. Make the right choice every time. If you decide to try 12 steps, great. They saved my life and millions of others too. But if something else keeps you clean, that’s great too.
When you feel stressed, depressed, anxious, angry, lonely, or in any way like you might go get fucked up, call 10 people who know you’re trying to stay clean, and be honest with them.
Drugs kill addicts. Sobriety is the only way out. Just focus on staying clean and sober until
You go to bed. And then set the same goal the next day. You can have it. All of it.

So sorry I had something come up last night. So the AA book says the total program can pull a chronic alcohol from death. We use until we are in prison, treatment, or dead. Now it is a program of action and is an inside job. If you cannot live like you did in your addiction and don't want to die, then you will do whatever you have to in order to have a better life. So in our group, we have a few rules we have to follow. The first step is to go to meeting. Meetings can be hit or miss, but it is with people that really want to help you and have experience being not sober and how to stay sober. Your gonna have to raise your hand or talk with someone after to get a sponsor. You have to call and run all ideas, plans, and problems by them as the last person you want to listen to is yourself. The sponsor should read and explain the steps to you. This will help you live with yourself. To stay sober, we have to sponsor others and get a weekly commitment when ready to take the message into jails and institutions. Then at some point, preferably early, you have to make your sobriety number one in your life. Above your family, friends, work, etc. This is what works for us and only takes a fraction of the time you would spend every day getting, using til gone, get more, repeat, repeat, repeat. An hour a day for a meeting, an hour per week to meet with your sponsor, a call every day that last 5 minutes, when you get to the point of sponsoring other girls that takes an hour or two a week per sponsee, then a 1hr per week to

Bring the message to others in prison, jail, detox, or rehab. Not a big time commitment for what you will get in return... DM me if you want to talk about anything..

That's awesome. Ya I def need to get to a meeting as soon as I can. Just to be around like minded individuals would feel nice.. Ive never done any steps or anything so it's something I know I need. Thanks Tim.
