Just a question I have a lot of friends who are recovering from opiate addiction and clean from them for years but drink and claim sobriety is that considered being sober?

Sober from opiates yes. If alcohol was never their addiction and is not a trigger to other things than it’s fine with me. Had a counselor in rehab once, she drank, her addiction was heroin. She had been clean for years. Also I use marijuana but that was never my problem, alcohol is. So long to short, my personal opinion is it’s OK with me! :call_me_hand:t3::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

These scenarios were asked a lot in rehab and we were consistently told that sobriety is abstaining from any and all mind-altering substances. I think that there are personal choices people can make though which only they know is ok for them. Maybe it depends on who you ask.

If it wasn’t your DOC and isn’t unmanageable then I would call it sober. But that just me.

No. Being sober is being free from any intoxicating substances.
