Just felt the need to post something about my “recovery”

Just felt the need to post something about my “recovery” because I don’t see many folks like myself here.

For me my recovery is a very personal and private thing. I don’t attend meetings or really discuss my sobriety with others.

People that are aware of my decision ask me how I “ don’t drink”? And honestly all I can say is that everyday not drinking is more important than drinking is.

I do have a few people that I talk to if I’m sad/angry/hurt etc. I think we all need that. But remember that there isn’t one perfect formula for sobriety, follow whatever path keeps you clean.

I hope everyone has a beautiful day, may the universe nurture and protect you, and every day you don’t use is a win.

Hi DJ, thank you for sharing, for the first two years and 11 months I also didn’t attend meetings and it was what worked for me, now I attend a couple Luckiest Club meetings a week, and I really enjoy the community. I agree that all paths of recovery are acceptable, we are all different and have vastly different experiences.

Love your openess here! This is what I'm finding with this particular community! You can feel free to talk about whatever works for you and Noone gets weird! I did the steps and worked a rigorous program of AA for my first 10 yrs. but around 8 I started to obess about drinking again! Especially in meetings!! I couldn't shake it! I tried for another two yrs. but deep down I knew where I was supposed to be. I found my way back to God at 10 and my obsession went away. Through the yrs following whenever someone reaches out I am there to help however I can. I know that God, the steps, my sponsor and the ppl. that loved on me saved my life but deep down I knew it was all to bring me to my knees and find my way home. And this is what works for me today! God bless you my friend :hugs:

I love this- thank you for sharing! I think it’s wonderful that there are so many ways people can get sober. At the end of the day, not drinking is what we’re doing- I’m whatever way works best! Im the same way, I don’t do meetings and it’s a very internal journey of honesty and self discovery and learning different coping tools. I do have a therapist that I see once a month that I can bounce ideas off of. Where I ‘lack community’ I consume quit lit and sober podcasts and audiobooks etc. Can I ask if there are tools that you use, or any particular tactic that you’ve found helpful?

I think that's why we are all here. That's to hear what is working for others or to ask questions looking for answers that will help you. I will probably be here forever. Best of luck to all and Happy Thanksgiving

Kate, I have very few suggestions. For me every day not drinking is more important than drinking.

All my “rock bottom” moments came years before I actually decided to stop drinking.

When I finally decided was at a time of change in my life we’re I thought it was possible. For a year before I quit every morning when I woke up and every night before bed I would tell myself tomorrow is the day I’m going to quit. That pattern continued until it was truly important enough for me personally.

But that’s not really what you asked. Things I do is work at my job very hard, exercise most days, yoga when I need focus, get plenty of sleep, cuddle my pets.
