Just got a job offer I’ve been waiting for, that will really change my kids and I’s lives. Which also means we will be moving 30 minutes away from where we currently live. I told some people the news, and they’re being a little negative about whether I can do it or not. I know for a fact if I stay sober and focused, I can do anything. I guess I will just have to prove them wrong.

Of course you can do it! Sobriety is a choice. Just keep making that choice. Congrats on the new job!

You can do this. You owe it to you and your kids to make this happen. I'm so proud of you for making better, yet hard, moves for you and your kids.

If I were what people thought of me- I would be crying and miserable. Don't let others determine how successful you get.

Keep making moves.

Thank you Amanda! I appreciate that. But it just reminds me of why I don’t tell people things.

I get it. People can be haters. You don't have to tell anyone anything.

Screw what other people think! Good on you for bettering your families lives. And really, 30 minutes is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Make the goal to hit the pillow sober every morning after you wake up and you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to

Other people may be negative but as long as you’re not that’s all that really matters. Everyone here is pulling for you !

Hehe I just love the unwarranted opinions of others. Some ppl are just negative Nancy’s by nature but also we can’t expect everyone to be on board with our recovery and some ppl are stuck in the past of what we used to be like..and rightfully so bc as alcoholics we have done a lot of damage to ppl in our past…so it makes sense they may not be convinced of the change that takes place when one gets sober and that’s okay..we don’t need to convince anyone but ourselves and our Higher power ..Dont worry about them…and just keep doin you..and remember , actions speak louder than words…Don’t prove them wrong ..just prove yourself right…one day at a time , slowly but surely . You got this

I love that. Thank you so much. I really needed that.

All you can do is be a better person today than you were yesterday. That standard doesn’t need to be set by anyone other than you. Rather than setting expectations for an outcome, try focusing on milestones working toward a goal. Whether we are using or sober, life will knock us back a step or ten and that’s ok as long as we get back up and keep moving forward. Change is hard but it’s a necessary evil sometimes. You’ve got this!
