Just hit a year on March 12, and some days are getting where I just feel empty, lost. Still going to meetings and talking to my sponsor, any advice or suggestions would be beneficial. Hope you folks have a great evening.
What you are feeling is common I think in regards to a year. In regards to a year away from anything. It is time for reflection and seeing how one has grown, but also a sense of mourning of what was too. Take stock of what works for you in your behavior change and what doesn't and go from there. These are just ideas. See how they fit for you and if they don't that is okay too.
It is normal to feel this way. As we walk our recovery journey, we get to experience life on life’s terms, which includes feeling all of the emotions we used to try to numb. Just remember: this, too, shall pass. I’m very happy you’re staying active with meetings and talking with your sponsor. If you haven’t started the steps, I highly recommend beginning them. Those are what brought the program to life for me, and ultimately changed mine. It is part of becoming a more healthy person to acknowledge our feelings and allow ourselves to process through them…and no matter what, we don’t have to use or drink. Keep up the good work, lean on others in recovery and take out easy on yourself.
I wanted to add also that keeping a gratitude list has helped me tremendously. I write down 5-7 things each day that I’m truly grateful for. Sometimes they’re small things… it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I stay focused on my blessings. Writing a gratitude list helps bring me back into the present and keeps me from feeling sorry for myself.
It was like that for me my first year and a half and I didn’t know what to do so I took advice ,at the time thought NO WAY ANY OF THIS COULD HELP ME but boy I was wrong these simple things changed my life and I’m now 4 years clean and feel like my life is just starting.
First, self affirmations ( I know, I know), writing min 3 things down daily what your grateful for and actually write it don’t just think it, journaling write what your feeling and if it’s negative try to find a positive in it. Come up with a routine especially for the morning, meditation and exercise anything to start. These things have been the keys to my success and not just me many people. I started to hear patterns of anyone who was successful ( not just with recovery, like millionaires) and they all say this is what’s got them their. So I gave it a shot and I’m a changed person. I know it sounds crazy but I suggest you try or look into it! Hope things get better I understand. If you haven’t done the steps you should it’s something everyone not just addicts should do. Also, it’s ok not to be 100% all the time now that your not using your emotions are gonna be different because you can actually feel them. It’s great your reaching out don’t let something like this take you out. Take suggestions and see what works for you and your recovery.
Stay the m f ing course that’s what I’m told Good job soldier
