Just over it

Relapsed for a year after having 6 years sober and now I back on the wagon. Day 2. I’m feeling so frustrated, heartbroken and just feeling defeated.

Katie, 6 years is real and it's still yours, it doesn't disappear because of this past year. Day 2 is hard, the shame spiral is often worse than the urge itself. You're not back at zero, you're back with everything you learned the first time still in you. Proud of you for showing up here instead of staying quiet about it. One day at a time, you've got this.

I really appreciate those kind words. The shame spiral is so loud but I’m going to bed sober. A win is a win.

I know the feeling. At least you made it back. I was out for 5 years after a 10 years of sobriety the first go around. Try to use your relapse as a learning experience. I know personally, my addiction got exponentially worse. Just like the book says. I learned that on a long enough timeline, I fail on my own. My last relapse got me in to the rooms, which saved my life.

Glad you’re back Katie. Go to meetings, find a sponsor, work the steps and reach out to another sufferer.
You are loved, we can do this together!!!

Welcome back from the depths of hello.... I would imagine feeling the same way, but a kinder gentler me would wish for you to have some grace towards yourself. You've been through a lot and deserve some support even from yourself. Take it easy and just get through today.

Katie, we fall we get back up we learn and become stronger. Then we learn we have tools to help others.
I relapsed more times than I care to count. 17+ years of sobriety now.
I’m here if you want to talk or have any questions

I relapsed after a year, I was one of them who said I would never do it!!! I was a month away from social services leaving my life! It’s part of the process and the most important part is your back on the right path!! You did it!!! You should be proud of yourself!!

I love this. I’ve also heard that relapse isn’t failure. It allows you to see what worked and what didn’t work and to learn and grow from it.

F.A.I.L.= First Attempt In Learning. I had 8 years then went out for 4. Very common for many of us. Welcome back! WE need you and you’re worth it!

Relapse is part of most of our stories, you matter and are worth living a better life. Praying for you and good on you for getting back on track

You are doing great. The fact that you came back says a lot. Relapse sucks really badly. The only thing you can do is keep moving forward and leave it behind you. You are not alone. I had many relapses and struggled for many years. You are not alone.

You know I’m going on a little over two years now and I’d be lying if I say here and said that the cravings have gotten so bad at times that I’ve deleted social media and turned my phone off. I just got in my car and went somewhere quiet with a nice breeze, sat, prayed, and listened. Some reason doing that has always helped me a lot. Here recently I’ve been having more issues with my kids mom. She up and moved to a different state which is super hard because I work constantly and my job is very demanding. People like us have GOT to stick together because it’s what drives us. Human emotion and having a solid family and friends that you can reach out to is the top notch way to stay secure in my opinion. Meditation, books, and meetings only get you so far. I know you don’t know me from Adam but if you’re ever struggling super bad please get on here and reach out. Send a message. Make a post. I’d love nothing more than to see you become the best version of yourself and I pray that what ever has got you down gets better. 6 years though? WOW!!! That’s an amazing feat. If you can do 6 years then just imagine how far you’ll go this time. You’re gonna be one of those people that newcomers look at and say “I admire how far she’s come and I pray I stay clean for as long as she has. Keep your head up Katie. You can do this. I believe in you

Sometimes we just have to do some more “research” with alcohol to realize how bad it really is for us. Welcome back to the other side!

@katie480246 welcome back. Did you learn anything from this relapse. This time around try a more supportive "wagon". For the past 37 years of my sobriety I've been firmly planted on a "radio flyer wagon".

Please understand that you (we) are allergic to alcohol. When we consume we do real Stoooooopid things, that's the allergic reaction. Such things that people of sound mind and prudent judgement don't do.

You are going to do you. However you want to get and stay sober. By doing so start doing some type of effective recovery program.

If you fail to plan you plan to fail.

I wish you luck.
