Anyone have any suggestions for recovery groups besides AA? My husband got the Vivetrol shot so he can’t drink but he isn’t progressing in his recovery. He is basically a dry drunk. I am 7 years in on my recovery but he won’t listen to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks everyone

He doesn’t like the AA/NA format.
My husband is the same way actually, he doesn’t do AA/NA, no programs, but he does see a counselor and his psych doctor..

Ok here is the deal. We live in a small one horse town. He had a counselor. All but his counselor quit that office. She was told to get rid of all clients that had over a month in with her. Well my husband had like 6 weeks with her so he was kicked. Now she has all the clients of the other counselors who quit who were under a month. Crazy right?

Seriously I’d be upset, I get it thou bc we came from a small town tight knit community too, we don’t even have counselors in our town we always have to drive.. maybe try calling ur insurance and see if they can provide a list for u? I know I am able to do that for both myself my husband n my kids actually..

One on one counseling maybe where he can get individual therapy and is private I like it do to a small community here and everybody knows everybody business He maybe able to open up and gain trust with a man therapist

You know. Now that you say that, his work has a number to call to find counselors. I will have to give them a call.

My only thought on all of this is that most folks are not successful in recovery unless they participate in their own recovery.
I had to travel to get to in person meetings. However, I was willing to go to any length for sobriety. Just like I went to any length necessary to drink.

Does your husband want recovery? Or do you want him in recovery?
I feel like, for me anyway, once sobriety became more important than everything else, that’s when a program began working. Until then I was still holding onto my old ideals.

Sponsor always told me "can't get em drunk or sober"..Maybe a sponsor "type" role model?
