One day at a time, with the help of the experience strength and hope of many other recovering addicts. Sometimes, you may need to stop, and think about your choices, multiple time a day, but getting through it clean, is the key

Hi Kimmi, for me it was realization that I could either keep drinking or have a relationship with my now 10 year old daughter… not both. When I left for rehab 3 years ago I promised her I would never drink again. My unwillingness to break that promise has gotten me through all the triggers and temptations. My advice would be to find something or someone in your life that is more important that the selfish want to get high or drunk. Someone or something that that you would do anything to keep from losing… Don’t let anyone tell you that AA or NA is the only way. We all have the ability to make choices, both good and bad. The more time you have achieved with personal accountability, the more confident and productive you will be. I’m rooting for you!

Awesome! Welcome! Glad you’re here. I know there are many many ways to go about living without a drink a day at a time. Whether you go at it in 12 step, through your church, therapy, whatever helps you - helps you. For me, AA has been my rock. I am now starting to explore other avenues of recovery, but I learned a lot from the roomS of aa and going through the 12 steps.

Meetings. Getting plugged into a program that others can relate too. And not living in the past. Good luck

Welcome Kimmi! Glad you are here. You got some great replies already. The fact that you are is an amazing head start. You already have awareness and willingness. That alone, along with not picking up a drink, is all you need to get started on this journey. For me, it’s been AA. I do meetings just about every day, except the days I do therapy. It’s given me my life back and so much more. I was so alone and trapped for so many years. The fellowship in AA has really helped me in so many ways. However, this is just my experience. As someone else said, I’m sure there are other ways. Whatever you do, I wish you find some peace and serenity in your life. You deserve it. You can do it :peace_symbol:

I should really proof read before I hit reply lol * the fact that you are “here” *

Thank you I am in IOP now and it has been extremely beneficial

Lol

I went to 90 meetings in 90 days. I haven't felt the need to return. But I stay on top of the thought process. Read Alcohol Explained. Read that web site too. www. Alcoholexplained.com. helps "scare you straight." Reading and contributing here. When you say something here you help confirm it in your mind. Most importantly ... to me ... just don't take that first drink on any given day. It is said ... one is too many and 10 isn't enough. You can do it. It's totally doable.
