Just summited a fourteener for the sixth time since becoming sober a little over 3 1/2 years ago. It was oddly emotional, not sure why🤷‍♂️ Hiking has saved me since the day I stopped drinking. I’ve been lucky in my sobriety as I’ve never had the craving to go back. It has been a sh!t year and at times I’ve wanted to got sit at the top of a mountain or by a lake and “sip” on a few thinking it would just be relaxing and enjoyable. I know what that could potentially lead to so I’m glad I haven’t caved. Sobriety for me has been successful bc of positive distractions, mainly hiking as I live in one of the hiking meccas in the country. I never hiked prior to sobriety, something I do regret. Im thankful for the place I call home and the ability to have such a beautiful place for nature therapy to get me through the challenging times. Find your positive distraction, get yourself and your body out and moving as it’ll be nearly impossible to regret. Hang in there everyone, especially the ones new to the sober journey. It does get easier, you just have to work at it:)
