just went to my first aa meeting and it felt like i was in a movie, everyone is so nice and accepting. why do i still feel like i need to go back to drinking, everyone in my real life wants me to and didn’t hate me as much. i didn’t hate me as much idk what to do
Goto another meeting, talk to people, get numbers, get a sponsor. Things will get better. Acceptance is the key!
The people you would drink with don’t want to face the inevitable change you are seeking. They either don’t understand, or don’t care because they fear the unknown. Stay true to yourself. AA was my saving grace. The fellowship and accountability were key in my early sobriety. Now it is more like a comfortable place to be.
thank you so much, after another meeting i am in a much better place. thank you for your response and caring. i wish you the best really
after the first meeting i felt so lost but i stayed for the second one and i have never felt so seen and loved. i am excited for tomorrows and hope to gain the comfort. thank you so much for your response, you’re god sent
Keep go to meetings.for a year.
Keep going, it falls into place
For what it’s worth, I believe the desire to go back to drinking is itself a withdrawal symptom.
Ley, so happy you’ve taken the plunge and started going to meetings! Get yourself a sponsor, and pray for the willingness to complete your step work in a timely manner. There’s some real magic to those 12 steps. Proof is in the pudding. The friends I have met in the rooms are some of the kindest most spiritual people I’ve ever met
i love that so much, thank you so much for your response. i really do need a sponsor. i’m trying to look around for new meetings because last one i went to kind of triggered me but i’m sure that’s normal. i just need to make it constant. how many meeting do you usually go to?
Yeah not every meeting is as awesome as I sometimes want it to be, but we are a bunch of imperfect alcoholic addicts. I always try to look for the similarities not the differences.
Last night I went to three meetings, first one was awesome, second one kind of really annoyed me, but the third one was super magical.
But the important thing was that I surrounded myself with other people in recovery, and I didn’t drink or use. I’d recommend to start collecting phone numbers of people in the meetings. That way when you catch a meeting that doesn’t quite click with you, you can talk about it with somebody. Always works for me
that definitely does make sense i will try to go out more and do that i just need to be more understanding, thank you (:
I also need to be more understanding
working on it, one step at a time
thank you again for talking to me, i hope you have an amazing day <3
