Ketamine Therapy

That's an interesting philosophy that doesn't work in the real-world.

In many cases, not all, you cannot get off one drug without another. If you do try the results could be death.

Librium is commonly used for alcohol withdrawal symptoms, while others are used to get off drugs such as heroin.

I’m mostly referring to being in sobriety, after the detox, folk use drugs to remain off drugs. I understand when first detoxing, aka subs, methadone, etc., are used to ween withdrawal symptoms. Yet, once weened, to continue using other substances to remain sober, usually lead back to drug of choice. I referred to Mathew Perry as an example. He was on suboxine, then tried another drug which ended his life all because he thought using a drug to get off a drug was the easy way to sobriety. Sobriety is meant to be clean from all substances. That is why sobriety programs are important to rewire one’s soul so no substances are needed. Again, no short cuts to sobriety. It takes work to earn a new way of life free from using.

Those medications that you are referring to are for treating the addiction. Ketamine, in the instance we're talking about is not being used to treat addiction, it's an anti-depressant. It reduces suicidal ideation in over 80% of patients within one hour. Most anti-depressants take months to work, and only work for around 30% of people.

You are entitled to your opinion, but that "hard work or nothing" attitude is actually very off putting to people trying to enter the recovery community, and counter-productive and dangerous. Without ketamine infusions for my depression, I would be dead.

I have had depression for years and I am on a very safe antidepressant called Pristiq. Works great. Ketamine with my history. Never happen I don’t care who the doctors is. I had a doctor that used to prescribe me Xanax. Well worked great until one day I couldn’t get the alcohol so I ate 40 of those suckers so now I get no Benzodiazepines I am on all non nicotine meds. I was under a doctors care back then. My husband wanted to k@ll him.

Everyone's different, that's why I said in my first post it's important to discuss things with your doctor, but blanket statements saying that no one should do this if they want to stay sober is dangerous and inappropriate.

I didn’t say no one should do this. Matthew was under dr doing this. He died. I didn’t say no one should do this. I SAID I Wouldn’t NOT do this myself. I wish you the best. Just be aware and careful

While Matthew Perry was receiving ketamine infusions for depression under a doctor's care, the ketamine in his system couldn't have been from that, given the time since his last infusion and the amount. That means he was abusing it, which is always a risk, hence the importance of talking and being honest with a doctor about your individual situation.

Ok. I am done do what you feel is right. They said nothing about him abusing it. He was using it for same reason as you. I am fine with this you do you I will do me. Best wishes merry Christmas

Ah gotcha. This thread has been one of the better conversations I've had.

Perfect reply. Was trying to say that but you said it perfectly.:heart:

I did a 6 week ketamine therapy program when I was about 5 months sober for depression, anxiety, and feeling ā€œstuckā€ā€¦ for me it was absolutely life changing, but I second what others have said that it should definitely be a closely monitored process with a medical professional. Mine were infusions monitored by a nurse practitioner and a ketamine guide, sometimes it’s a beautiful experience but different people respond differently (like anything) so it can bring things up that need support to work through. More importantly though, what I have researched and learned about the process, and my own experience… the ketamine infusions themselves don’t really ā€œfixā€ anything… it works on your neural pathways in your brain so it’s more about the integration process you do during and between treatments, it allows you the opportunity to create and solidify new thought processes and behaviors ideally things you can maintain and build into positive productive coping skills and nervous system regulation. Doing ketamine therapy and changing nothing else will likely have little to no impact or lasting results. Hope that’s helpful! :slightly_smiling_face:

It works extremely well but it is pricey.
