Last night

Last night, my boyfriend wanted to take me to dinner. We went somewhere new and we didn’t know it was going to be a party place. I didn’t drink… thank goodness. BUT I did sit with my thoughts and temptations, even held my chip in my hand to remember all the sober women I had just met at AA. After about 20 minutes I felt very comfortable in my skin and I was able to release those temptations and enjoyed my dinner and water. I use this platform to hold my accountability and remember it’s never just “one”. Right now it seems ok, but I know I have a long road ahead of me.

Mindfulness is a tremendous help in sobriety. Practicing a daily program of recovery is a great way to stay mindful. Staying in touch with others in recovery thru meetings, this app etc, are great ways to stay mindful. It has often been said “in the rooms” that we have a “built in forgetter”. If we don’t practice a daily program of recovery, we slowly forget how bad things used to be. We begin to only remember the good times. Hope you’re sharing these feelings with the bf. Be careful not to fall into the trap of feeling like you “should” be able to handle all these “party” situations. As you progress, try and find a balance, and schedule in some sober activities. Now go back to studying :joy:. I’m sure you have you have a bunch of lectures to catch up on

Thank you! I started practicing mindfulness 5 years ago for
other issues I had in the past. I’ve never used it for sobriety, but yet this is my first time being “sober”, but I can say it has taken years of practice to come to deeper awareness. So I know it’s paid off and will continue to do so.
Funny you bring that up because I was looking around at people and wondering why they chose to drink or if they didn’t have the same problem as me. OR maybe most people do have the problem but fail to realize it…. Or is it just the sheep following the heard? I do notice all the years of mindfulness practice is going to help me slow down, drop into my body and notice what the actual urges are.
