Learning to live with desire may be one of the most important things for an addict to learn. It's like my need for pleasure and self-satisfaction is distorted and until I find balance through a program, meditation or whatever way outside of myself works, I will suffer. So as I become more aware of my desires even beyond alcohol and drugs such as food, lust, and spending $; I can see them for what they are, just desires. I can learn to not act on every impulse and rather just let it go. These desires can seem so powerful but I've found that if I pause and shine the light on them these desires run and hide in the dark once again and I can return to peace. Of course, they are always lurking in the dark waiting to bite but I'm building up my toolbox more and more with each day that I don't feed the demons and this is what makes taking one day at a time a little bit easier for me.

It’s not the substances that are our main issues. It’s what brought us to using them that are. Good attitude. Keep aware of those wants and desires and hope you find a balance.

Check out the alcohol experiment book by Annie. It helps to train the subconscious mind, and is pretty neat.

Ooo I will! Thanks for the suggestion.
Forgetting that Desires are not the same as Needs. But I like visualizing what that Desire is actually for, and finding how to scratch the itch without relapse.
