Lending an ear

I work midnights as a detox nurse. I’m up at crazy hours and only a message away if anyone ever needs someone to talk to .

I worked in recovery up until recently, running and scheduling a rehab program that I had gone through. The siren song of higher pay pulled me away

I hear you! Under paid, and under appreciated is an understatement. You got people out there like Harper and Perry. Using there disease for personal gain. Just not right. If they had any concerned for others with addiction there profits would go to those who need the help! Some of us that have gone to detox slept six inch’s off the ground in small room with 3 others, eating cafeteria type food, waiting in line like prisoners to get meds . Addiction and what addiction leads to which is nothing good and is not taken seriously by people in general never mind the government. Sorry for my rant back to you and thank you for all You do🙏

I hear you . I work for a non profit detox. Most of our patients are Medicaid. I do my best to never treat them like “just another addict” . We are all human beings fighting this darn disease.

I love that you have the patience to do that we need more people willing to help thats been in addiction it makes a huge difference <3 message me when ever I need more sober friends in my circle

I will say, lately I've felt pulled back to the place I was at though. I did the music for a church that is comprised of addicts yesterday morning, and saw a guy I'd seen fail our program twice, he was looking like he needed help. I've heard the place is falling apart without firm leadership and having turnover rate issues.

While there is a certain serenity in going to work, hitting performance metrics and going home without all of the stress and emotional toll of trying to encourage/maintain a group of addicts, there is a certain lack of meaning to what I do that I miss.

More power to you for sticking it through.

I’m so sorry. Yes it breaks my heart when I see the same people come to detox over and over. It really makes me question if we are doing anything to help . But then there is someone that comes along and thanks me for what I do for them and it brings me hope again.
