First time on this app.
However, this is probably attempt # (unobtainable number) at stopping. I want to be sober at all times but I always find myself back in the same spot or being sober for small amounts of times and then slowly realizing I’m back to drinking every night. I don’t want to continue this cycle and I’ve tried numerous different things to help me stop. My issue isn’t with being around others that are drinking and I can go out (although I rarely do just because I’m too much of a homebody) and not have a single drink and be fine. My issue lies within myself and grabbing something on the way home or sitting at home and getting bored and convincing myself it’s ok to go grab something. It’s not ok because I don’t have an off switch. Once I start, that’s it. Blackout city! I’m tired of the cycle and I have so many other personal goals and things I want to do but I always allow the booze to get in the way.
So, let’s try this again, shall we?
First time on this app as well. Glad to see others who are new as well. I have no idea what I’m doing but hey we’re here.
You say you have tried everything, has that included a program? I was also a blackout artist. I know that just one more lie I told myself every night. I finally went to AA, got a sponsor, did my steps throughly and honestly… a year and two months later I can say I am a changed man. I Hope you find what you need to find peace.
I was just about to make the same suggestions! Tried and true!
I know this cycle all too well. What help me break it was to find my inner child. I do a lot of playing when I’m bored. I play with arts and crafts I go outside. I play with my dog I do anything to stay busy by myself being a homebody also. I get that it’s easier said than done. But once you get through it it’s so much easier on the other side. Don’t go back my friend we’re all rooting for you. #Soberwarrior from New Mexico
You may consider subscribing to the SAM™️ program here in the app. It helps build a daily sober routine.
Thanks. I’m just now able to get back to the gym and do yoga, etc. I had back surgery at the end of March and that basically took me out of a lot of my regular activities that I would occupy my time with. I had way too much free time during recovery and I allowed that to be a ridiculous excuse to drink a lot more than I should have been or even more than I wanted to. Now that I can be active again I’m trying really hard to focus my mind there instead of drinking.
I did a few years back. Had a sponsor and started working the steps. There was just something that didn’t feel right to me about it so I didn’t continue. I’m not opposed to trying it again IF I find the right group of people. Last time it was a very heavy handed situation and the attempts to make me feel bad only made me want to drink more.
The right group is DEFINITELY a must. And the right sponsor. The thing I struggled with was being completely honest in the beginning. Once I got real and laid it all out at the 4/5 step I got it. Try several groups. I found my place in a mens group. AA shouldn’t be judgmental or driving people away.
