So many of us are struggling with insomnia. I hoped we could share strategies.
fails:
Tried weed..that's bad
Melatonin gives me nightmares when it works.
Tylenol PM is too effective and addicting.
My new plan, from my therapist, is to assign myself an early bed time. Go to bed and give it a shot.
The idea is I never had a bed time. I just passed out every night. I am attempting to re learn the act of going to bed. I have no idea if this will help or not but it's my new self treatment.
Got anything that works?
Please share!!
Exercise and diet play a big role in our bodies being able to regulate themselves and go to sleep at night, along with a schedule and only using your bed for sleeping or that one thing.
I went through that for months. I finally got an addiction medication Dr and he prescribed me “Zaleplon”. That works well. But when I have night where I can’t stop thinking about the things I did I still lay awake some nights. Being in recovery is so hard when family doesn’t get it. But other than that I do finally sleep.
I use sleep meditations/yoga nidra almost every night, 'Insight Timer' has been the best app for me for almost 9 years. Lots of options there to help quiet my brain.
Eliminate screen time an hour before bed. Sleepy tea really helps me. Or a hot bath with Epsom salts. Sometimes a noise machine helps too with gentle noises such as rain. Trying to get to sleep at the same time helps too. Also I watch a lot of ASMR videos
The elimination/ending of screen time is great advice! I find myself in bed looking at stupid videos. I'll end that tonight!!
This is a big one, I had a couple relapses simply because I couldn't sleep without passing out. I had no idea that insomnia would result from my years of drinking and is one of rhe hardest parts of early sobriety. For me insomnia I'd likely permanent so I'll be taking medication for it for good, for others I've heard it slowly passes. I will say that meditation and prayer and working out has helped me somewht
