Life after withdrawal

Hello, I’m looking for someone to talk to who went through the excruciating battle that is alcohol withdrawal.

I went through it about 2 months ago and am still experiencing some strange cognitive symptoms, as well as anxiety issues.

I’ve heard some people deal with PAWS ( Post acute withdrawal syndrome) for a month and up to a year.

I’ve had a hard time explaining to people in my support system what it feels like. So I’m hoping to connect with someone who can help me articulate and help my loved ones understand what I’m dealing with.

How do I deal with withdrawals. I’m trying to get sober but I’m just afraid of it being to much for me without getting medicine or anything like that

I went through it twice, once on medication and once with out. The second time was due to a relapse. I recommend talking to a doctor and getting a prescription. I wish I would’ve the second time around. If not, let your support system know what’s going on. B Complex vitamins seemed to help a little bit. Avoid loud places with bright lights. The grocery store was my worst nightmare during my second withdrawal.

When I was on the medication for my first withdrawal. I was put on a tapering schedule with Librium, which is a benzo. I didn’t really feel much of the withdrawal. It gets you through the thick of it for sure.

How long does the Librium have to work for

I was put on it for 6 days, tapering my doses everyday.

I don’t have insurance or a doctor so how could I go about getting help

That is tricky. I was uninsured too. I went to the ER and an ER Doc gave me my prescription.

Thank you for the info
