Life in recovery and what we think

When you develop an addiction, which takes less than most people know and is developed under the radar before you even notice, it tells you what to do.

That addicted part of your brain will tell you that you will be alone if you get sober and you’re terrified of being alone. Your addiction will tell you that people will judge you when you’re honest and you can’t ever show people the real you, so how are you supposed to be honest with them about getting sober? It’s not worth it. Your addiction will tell you you can’t live without it, this bad feeling will last forever, you’ll never feel good or happy again, you’re always going to feel sickly and manic. Your addiction will tell you that the money doesn’t matter, you can make more, this money can be for your addiction. Your addiction will tell you that you can quit later, that you can quit when you want. Your addiction will tell you it can’t hurt using money meant for your family on your vice. Your addiction will tell you that your family is important, but you can’t live without your addiction, so if it comes down to it, you have to keep yourself alive, even if that means leaving them. Your addiction will tell you that your family will hate you, your loved ones will hate you, your kids will never want to be around you again. Your addiction will tell you that there’s no coming back from this, that you’re stuck.

Well that’s wrong

It is crazy to look back at where my life was just 3 years 9 months ago, I was scared and unsure if this was really going to work but I was ready and willing to escape the prison I had created for myself in my addiction. I am proud of the person I am today. I am not perfect and there are things that I am working toward daily, but I am free I am happy and I am able to be present in my life today through the good times and the bad I know I can make it as long as I stay clean and sober. I want to thank all of my amazing family and friends for the love and support. I used to think I was so alone but the truth is I never was I have amazing support in my wife, my restore family, my work family and friends. I love you all and Thank you!

Well said I can relate bits and pieces of your testimony
