Hey Loosid fam! Happy weekend!! One week out of treatment and doing awesome
besides a minor TEST from God tonight.. I went to my weekly Friday night church recovery meeting with some people from the treatment center, including the Pastor that runs it and is a therapist at the program.. I exchanged numbers with one of the women at IOP earlier in the day & invited her to come to the meeting tonight.. Welp, she came…drunk- smelling of vodka and drinking right next to me! That didn’t totally bother me although I felt very uncomfortable to be associated with her.. What really bothered me was the multiple times she tried to come on to me
.. She put her arm around me/the back of my chair multiple times, caressed my arm, put her hand on my thigh and then on my back… Each time I moved away and pushed her hand away but I did not say anything bc I didn’t want to disrupt the speaker/group… Considering my major struggle with codependency this was HORRIBLE for me bc I wanted to stick up for myself & RUN but I did not want to bother anyone else, including her. I ended up texting her after and expressed my discomfort with it and made it clear that it was not acceptable on multiple levels- boundaries in general & I am straight. I am very accepting of all people but this really crossed the line for me and as hard as it even was for me to text her bc “I felt bad” & just wanted the situation to disappear, I knew I had to address it! I’m trying much harder these days to keep a positive mindset, not be judgmental, and/or play victim but Oh mmmyyyy was this difficult… I am looking at it as a learning experience bc I truly do believe it was a TEST from God for my recovery in general with both drinking and codependency.. I don’t think I passed with flying colors bc I probably should have been more assertive in the moment but I am proud of myself for at least addressing it and not letting it eat me alive, put me in a negative pity party, and/or running for the door! I know this is probably a bit much to share here but I feel comfortable sharing with you all and value your feedback
Besides that situation though, dual-diagnosis treatment was nothing short of LIFE SAVING for me
. I can only pray that everyone can have that experience with or without inpatient treatment. When they say “it works if you work it” they are not kidding but I’m going to elaborate- GIVE IT YOUR ALL!!!!!! Do not JUST go to meetings…WORK YOUR PROGRAM!!! I am not just talking about AA/NA though…get “a program” in place that works best for YOU & give it your all! My program now consists of IOP, AA, CoDa, ACA, GriefShare, Celebrate Recovery, Church, && Benji:dog:, positive friends/family, healthy diet, yoga, meditation, working out! I don’t think my program is perfect but I just really wanted to share the major importance of BALANCE & MENTAL HEALTH on this journey!! Too often everyone is always telling us all you need to do is “not use & go to meetings.” That IS NOT all WE or anyone striving to be healthy needs in life- WE MUST FEED the MIND/BODY/SOUL!!
