Living life, on life’s terms….what does that look like for YOU? Needing encouragement

Sometimes you gotta just slap back at life.

Living life on life’s terms quickly became a honest realization (In early sobriety) that I had absolutely no skills to achieve that. I wasn’t taught coping skills as a child so alcohol became that for me. It worked too all the way until it didn’t anymore. I adopted the 12 step way of life to fast track me to gaining a reasonably effective way to live life in a healthy way, not having to numb life with substance. I in a nutshell I’ve learned that I only have control over myself and everything else I accept as what it is. I do not have to react and spend my mental space to change the unchangeable, serinity

To me, it means a lot. Acceptance of what is happening today.
Also, realizing that things are not always going to go the way I want them to. Finally, understanding that there are good and bad things that happen and just because it’s happening to me doesn’t mean that I’m unique. How I deal with them is what matters.

Probably the most meaningful thing I learned when I first got clean and sober. Living life on my terms doesn’t work! Life happens and face it head on, sometimes good , sometimes bad, learn how to hit the curveballs it throws your way👊

We have a choice to see life’s terms as a challenge or as lessons that we won’t learn necessarily right away! If we adapt our attitude and learn to accept then we can become happy joyous grateful and free from resentment……

For me it means dealing with the things as the come along. Processing my emotions and dealing with situations before they compound and get worse.

For me it’s a lot about acceptance—of things, situations, and people as they are instead of as I wish they were.

Accept the world the way it is. Not the way I'd like it to be. Be open to suggestions, clean my own side of the street only, stay out of the results and be grateful for what I have.

Grateful for what I have. Everyday tuning into the vibes that I’m so lucky to be here. For this breathe. For another chance. Knowing it’s never to late and Keep moving forward. Creating more positive memories as often and consistently as I can. Because God knows what a career we all have had as alcoholics doing the opposite. It’s not to late :alarm_clock: good things are happening and coming everyday.

All we can control is our attitude, perspective and actions. Gratitude = the best attitude.

Basically i think the big one is practicing joy, healthy habits, gratitude all that until it’s ingrained ands second nature. New vibe. On our terms. Raising the bar and choosing to learn, embrace discomfort steering away from self destructive BS. Because addiction created a whole other set of tendencies that we now consciously get to rewrite. Thank goddess for the brain being neuroplastic and how capable our bodies, lives, relationships, bank accounts are of healing ❤️‍🩹

I’ve found that life is still life.. regardless of if you’re sober or not.. things that happen in your life aren’t going to change or not for me anyway.. but I’m dealing with them.. with a different frame of mind.. I can see the problems more clearly and can cope with them better.. I depend on God to see me thru.. and to make life better..

Well said facts

Very true

Live for today and build for tomorrow. I try not to do anything that will slow down my progress. Thinking beyond myself. Doing something for a stranger, for my people, for the planet. I make prints celebrating sobriety for people I’ve never met, pick up the phone and listen, giving back is as simple as picking up that trash you see countless people walking past. Your life has meaning regardless of what anyone else thinks. Any act no matter how small, it matters.

Repeat do only what is in front of you have a great day go to sleep wake up repeat doing only what is in front of you doesn't mean worrying about your future or your mother's future or your daughter's future or your father's future nobody else's future matters your anxiety level needs to be reduced and we're going to do that together on this here forum

I couldn't do it without the support of the NA fellowship and program.

Accepting every person place and thing exactly as it is and not trying to
Impose my will, living as rigorously honest as a human can, one day at a time

Taking a breath when anything remotely negative happens before reacting to it. Then Deciding whether it warrants action, when it warrants action, and then deciding how to proceed.
