Hey guys! I’m 52 days sober and want to stay that way but I’ve been suffering with the WORST cravings. They hit me so hard to the point I feel like I can’t breathe and the only way to get air is to take a sip. Does anyone have any tips on how to fight these cravings or personal experience of when and if they end? Thanks!
Ahhhh, have you tried working a sobriety program? Meetings?
Yes. I’m in AA and about to go to another meeting now!
There ya go. You got this. Keep sharing this. It’s normal
When ever you are in doubt and feel the need to drink go to a meeting ASAP. It’ll get you out of your head. Have a support group also. Talk their heads off if you need to. I used meditation and prayer. It’s amazing what just 15 seconds and the serenity prayer in your head can do. Stay strong you are in control sobriety isn’t for the weak hearted lol
Occupy your mind when you are having a craving. Meetings are great but it can be something as simple as grounding techniques or going for a run. Don’t let your mind fixate on it. Gotta get past that 10-15 min window. A grounding technique I’ve been successful with is Cities and States. Start with A and try to think of as many as you can. Then so on and so forth. If you’re like me by the time you get to G it’ll have passed. Peace and love
I eat the F out of candy, when I need to. I know that sounds pretty basic and obvious but having some Starburst or something handy for a craving is all it takes sometimes.
