Loosid Sober Tip of the Day Aug 24

We often think we are only responsible for our actions.

Remember, at any time, we are responsible for three things: Our actions, our reactions and our inactions.

Ironically, inaction is often the most powerful.

This may mean restraint of pen and tongue by not sending that nasty text, email or phone response to someone who hurt you.

It may also mean sitting quietly with yourself and observing your thoughts and settling your mind.

Actions and reactions are very powerful as well.

Write down your actions, reactions and inactions from the last day. Then take an inventory to see what inactions were not useful and should have been acted upon.

Do the same for actions and reactions. You will get better each day. It just takes a bit of practice.

For me, this didn't come right away....it came quite naturally about a year into my recovery. It takes a while for the brain fog to lift and the delusional egocentric self to get back to reality. Now I'm always thinking about how I handled a situation, what I liked about it, what I didn't like about it, and if presented with the situation again how I can handle it better next time, do I need to be more assertive, or did/does that situation require any sort of reaction at all, any anger, guilt fear that comes up from that I explore that...where did it come from? Did I overreact? Did I under-react?
