Loosid Sober Tip of the Day August 13

Identify, don’t compare.

When we come into a spiritual program of recovery, many of us will find that we compare our stories with others.

We may feel we have not reached the desperate levels others have or, alternatively, we may look at our stories and think that we have had a much rougher time.

It is not our job to take the inventory of others.

It is very important never to compare stories, but rather identify with the feelings.

Look for the similarities, not the differences.

When we focus on similarities, we will invariably find them.

I am guilty of this as well! Working on my empathy towards others because I have been selfish and only thinking of myself for sooooo long. I will definitely resonate on this today.

This was great to hear & def a good message to the newcomer!! Cuz I remember trying to come to my first # of meetings @17yrs old & all i did was compare, my age, how I didn’t do what they’ve done, I don’t have a problem drinking, they do…. Well I wish I didn’t compare all those yrs ago Cuz I would’nt have to go where I did in life, mentally/emotionally drained!!!

This hit home. I always joke about some meetings just being all about our “War Stories”. And while it’s good to share about our experience with addiction. I find that when they practice on sharing their strength and hope that the miracle of fellowship happens.

I totally agree with this message. As this is my second go around in recocery, I have learned to be willing to hear the feelings other members are expressing. As well as to be open-minded to the fact that I may enjoy, or suffer, those same "feels" at some point!!! To be capable of FEELING, anything, is a gift we all receive from 12 step recovery programs... Today I am happy to say, I do identify and NOT compare my story to others...
