Loosid Sober Tip of the Day August 14

Compare and despair.

Yesterday, we talked about how important it is to identify with the feelings and never to compare stories.

Comparing ourselves to others is a trap that too many people in recovery find themselves.

When we compare ourselves to others, we lose sight of the entire reason why we are in recovery… to connect with likeminded others who share our common bond.

Comparison is the death of happiness. We must look toward others with hope and, for those who may be sicker than others, we must choose empathy.

When we compare, we either feel worse about ourselves or we feel better than others. Self-pity or ego. Either path is the wrong path.

Make a commitment today to not compare yourself to others. You are exactly where you need to be.

Amen!!!

Compare to this: how many people who ever lived have comfort & leisure such as we do, and even the mental/spiritual horsepower to think about respecting what we’ve been given ?

Right on! I needed this message. Im currently waiting for a job to come my way, and I need to practice patience. I am exactly where I need to be. My higher power knows what’s best for me.

Comparing yourself to others will lead you down a dark road. This is a very good tip and a great reminder

It’s tough to just accept myself as “where I need to be” when I am aware of so many ways I want to improve. Comparing doesn’t inspire me though—usually just feel “less than”. But I am paying more attention to people who are real optimists, people who energize me—what makes them that way and what can I learn? That’s better than just comparing!
